Bear Gulch
Located in scenic Portola Valley, California, this Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is thoughtfully sited on the natural hillside setting. Nestled within a grove of mature oak trees, this shou Sugi Ban clad structure is harmoniously integrated into the hillside and appears to float over an open carport below. The ADU features interior living space arranged in two wings, divided by a central outdoor courtyard connected to a continuous front deck extending the length of the building. This upper living area is elevated above the carport, partially benched into the hillside for minimal environmental impact.
